How much does an AI agent really cost for a small business?

The advertised price of an AI agent is only part of its cost. By the end, you will know which cost items to account for, what ABYS plans cover, what hidden costs to expect, and how to honestly compare with the time you spend today, using your own figures rather than promises.

How much does an AI agent really cost for a small business?
Key takeaways
  • The real cost adds up the subscription, your setup time and your review time.
  • At ABYS, plans range from 19 to 349 euros excl. VAT per month depending on frequency and token volume.
  • A single token pool is shared by all agents on the account.
  • Compare with the time you spend today, measured over your own week.
  • Start small, on one task, and judge by results.

"How much is it?" is a manager's first question, and it is legitimate. The honest answer comes in two parts: what you pay each month, and what the agent asks of you in time, especially at the beginning. This course details both, without invented gain figures. At the end, you will have a method to do your own calculation, with your own data.

IThe four cost items of an AI agent

An AI agent is not just a subscription. Four cost items add up: the subscription itself, the token consumption it includes or not, the time you spend setting it up, and the time you spend reviewing what it produces. The first two are paid in euros, the last two in hours. Forgetting them means getting your calculation wrong from the start.

What you pay and what you give
Cost in eurosCost in time
Monthly subscription, excl. VAT
The task description and choice of documents
Token consumption, included in the plan
The answers to the agent's questions and reading the plan
A premium plan if the volume grows
Reviewing the first submissions
A specialized agent rented separately, if needed
Regular monitoring and document updates

IIABYS plans and what they cover

Here, the plan is chosen according to the volume and pace of work, not according to the number of agents. From the smallest one, you can have multiple agents work: it is the token tank of the month, shared by all agents in the account, that limits the work. The account displays the consumption, which allows you to see where you are.

The four subscription plans
Price excl. VAT per monthPace and tokens per month
Once a week: 19 euros
one pass per week, 100,000 tokens
Every day: 99 euros
one run per day, 700,000 tokens
Multiple times per day: 199 euros
one run every four hours, 1.8 million tokens
All day: 349 euros
one pass every hour, 5 million tokens
The monthly price of the four plans, excl. VAT
19 €one pass per week
59 €one pass per day
119 €one pass every four hours
199 €one pass every hour

Annual payment possible, with a discount.

Definition
Token

The unit in which AI work is counted, both what it reads and what it writes.

The longer the documents entrusted and the more often the agent runs, the more tokens it consumes. An agent that reads a short table once a week consumes little. An agent that rereads long PDFs every day consumes more. Our article on tokens details this point.

A yearly payment also exists, with a discount. It is justified once you know which plan suits you, not before.

IIISpecialized agents and free tools

Some agents are rented separately, because they do a complete job. Milo, our business prospecting agent, costs 399 euros excl. VAT per month, or 599 euros excl. VAT for the premium plan. An additional prospecting direction costs 199 euros excl. VAT. This budget compares to what your prospecting costs today, not to a basic subscription.

Before paying anything, two tools are free: the AI audit, which gives a score and leads from your website address (the full report costs 99 euros excl. VAT), and the AI visibility test, which indicates whether assistants mention your business.

IVHidden costs: setup, review, habits

The first hidden cost is setup. You need to describe the task, choose the right documents, answer the agent's questions, read its plan and watch its trial run. This is owner time, often taken in the evening. The second is review: as long as you validate submissions by hand, each draft requires your attention. The third is changing habits. You need to remember to go through the agent, keep its documents up to date and watch its results.

VCompare with an hour of human work, using your figures

To know if an agent is worth its price, do not rely on any percentage of gain announced, including ours: we do not give any. Measure your own situation. The method takes five steps, and all you need is a notebook or a spreadsheet.

Your calculation, step by step
  1. 1
    Time the current task

For two normal weeks, note the time actually spent on the target task: follow-ups, quotes, responses to requests. Also count interruptions and resumptions, because a task cut into pieces takes more time than it appears.

  2. 2
    Calculate your hourly rate

Choose the value of an hour: the loaded cost of an employee doing the task, or, if it is you, what you would charge a client during that time. Use your own figure, not an average.

  3. 3
    Estimate the remaining time

With an agent, review, monitoring and document updates remain. After the first few weeks, note this time honestly, over the same period as your first measurement.

  4. 4
    Add the setup

Note the time spent creating and setting up the agent, then spread it over several months so it weighs in the calculation without overwhelming it.

  5. 5
    Compare the two columns

On one side, the time the task took you, multiplied by the value of your hour. On the other, the subscription, plus the setup time spread out and the remaining time, valued at the same hourly rate. If the first column does not clearly exceed the second, stay in trial or change tasks.

Do not forget what is not easily quantified: an invoice followed up on time, a quote sent the same evening, one less mental burden. Note it alongside, without turning it into invented euros.

VIChoose your first plan without making a mistake

I advise you to start with the smallest plan that covers a single well-chosen task: repetitive, clear, with few documents. An accounting firm can start with follow-ups for missing documents, a family with the weekly menu. Look at the consumption displayed in your account after one month. If the tank is almost empty before the end of the month, switch to the premium plan. If it is still quite full, add a second task before paying more.

Test yourself · a question from the level III exam

A manager compares the price of their agent's subscription to the time the task took them. According to the lesson, which cost items are they forgetting?

Four items add up: the subscription, tokens included in the plan, setup time and review time. The last two are paid in hours.

?Questions we're asked

How much does an AI agent cost for a small business?

It depends on your workload and service provider. At ABYS, subscriptions range from 19 to 349 euros excl. VAT per month, depending on the number of tokens included, with multiple agents available from the first plan. Add your setup and review time, which counts as much as the displayed price.

What is a token in artificial intelligence?

A token is a small piece of text, often part of a word, that the AI reads or writes. Service providers count the work of an AI in tokens. The longer the documents and the more often the agent works, the higher the consumption. At ABYS, each plan includes a monthly token tank shared by all your agents.

Is an AI agent profitable for a small business?

It depends on the task and your time. Measure the time spent today on the task, give it a value, then compare it to the cost of the subscription and the review time that remains. A repetitive and well-defined task has more chances of being one than a rare and variable task. No one can guarantee it to you in advance.

Are there hidden fees with an AI subscription?

At ABYS, the plan price is displayed excl. VAT and token consumption is visible in the account. The real costs to plan for are elsewhere: setup time, reviewing the first submissions, updating documents and changing habits. With any provider, ask what happens when the included volume is exceeded.

Check the details of the plans and start with the smallest one that covers your first task, then adjust based on the consumption displayed.
